Satan's Lies vs. God's Truth

Anastasis Faith

We're starting a new series called "Satan's Lies vs. God's Truth." Here is the first installment using Psalm 139! If you would like to contribute to this series, please visit the Guest Posting page!

Satan's Lie: No one understands you.

God’s Truth: “O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
You understand my thought from afar.
You scrutinize my path and my lying down,
And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
Even before there is a word on my tongue,
Behold O LORD, You know it all.
You have enclosed me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is too high, I cannot attain to it.”
Psalm 139:1-6

Satan's Lie: You are alone. God is far away.

God’s Truth: “Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
Even there Your hand will lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me.”
Psalm 139:7-11

Satan’s Lie: This darkness in your life and around you is going to swallow and consume you.

God’s Truth: “If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will overwhelm me,
And the light around me will be night,’
Even the darkness is not dark to You,
And the night is as bright as the day.
Darkness and light are alike to You.”
Psalm 139:12

Satan’s Lie: She's a lot prettier than you. You're just another ugly face in the crowd.

God’s Truth: “For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.”
Psalm 139:13-16

Satan’s Lie: Do you really think anyone even knows you exist? If they did, they wouldn't care.

God’s Truth: “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand.
When I awake, I am still with You.”
Psalm 139:17-18

"Search me, O God,
And know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way."
Psalm 139:23-24

 Which of these lies have you believed before? What are some others that you believe? What Scripture do you use to combat those lies?

  1. Well, to answer the question, I'd say for sure that I've believed all those at some point in my life. Especially the one that says "I am alone..." and "...I'm just another ugly face in a crowd." I used Deuteronomy 31:8 ("It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”) to refute the first. Then the second, I just figured there were bigger things to worry about! :) So I just stopped thinking about it!

    1. I've believed those, too. In fact, I've believed all of them!! ;) But we need to keep fighting those lies! :)

  2. This series is a great idea! Original sin came from doubting God's Word in the beginning, I believe our temptation most often turns to sin as we doubt God's Word or worse forget what it says. To know and remember the truth is critical to successfully fighting temptation. Thank you!

    1. Absolutely! Satan's lies resonate with our deepest fears and they can be so convincing! But we must remember what God says in His Word to battle temptation. So glad you enjoyed the post! :)
